On Saturday, April 7 SelecTrucks of Houston and Houston Freightliner partnered with Progressive Insurance and the St. Christopher’s Truckers Relief Fund to give away the first ever Commercial truck to a deserving Veteran. Since the start of the keys to progress program 5 years ago, Progressive has donated considerable time and resources to provide more than 500 military families in organizations with reliable transportation so they can get back on the road and moving forward in life. However, this was the first time the company has donated a commercial tractor.
The recipient of this life changing gift is James Rogers, who spent 11 years in the US Army including tours in Afghanistan and Korea. He suffered a spinal injury while abroad. Once healthy and ready to enter the civilian workforce, Rogers wanted a career that would provide the same camaraderie and integrity that being a soldier provided and so he became a truck driver. Rogers was accompanied by his family, friends and Service Dog “Sergeant”. After the opening ceremony, the truck had a parachute draping the truck and the truck was unveiled for James Rogers to see the truck for the first time. He was overwhelmed with tears of joy and was very thankful.
SelecTrucks/Houston Freightliner provided the facilities volunteer staff resources and hours of time to perform service, body and paint work on the truck free of charge, including all parts.
