Joplin, MO: The first Guilty By Association Truck Show, GBATS, was held in 2008 with only 38 trucks in attendance. GBATS 2017 attracted 510 participating show trucks, with an estimated 10,000 attendees. The 2018 show, scheduled for Sept. 27, 28 & 29, has been expanded to 3 nights and 2 days with official festivities beginning Thursday night with the addition of a Professional Bull Riding event. GBATS 2018 also brings new attractions such as Big Rig Diesel Drag Racing, as well as a free concert held in downtown Joplin by Confederate Railroad, making this year the most action packed schedule to date. This show is not only a big weekend for truckers to come together, but it’s an incredible way to give back to the Special Olympics of Southwest Missouri through the record-breaking Saturday Convoy fundraiser that raised over $102,000 last year alone. Truckers pledge $100 per truck to enter the convoy, plus the Top 15 positions in this World’s Largest Convoy for Special Olympics are auctioned off, in addition to several financial donations by area trucking companies. As all years prior, truckers pay no entry fee to enter their semi truck in the GBATS show, and all events are FREE ADMISSION to registered participants. On-site auto parking is also FREE during the weekend to encourage families and local residents to come enjoy the trucks and support the trucking industry, which has a long heritage in the Joplin, MO area.
Brice Martin, co-owner of 4 State Trucks home of the Chrome Shop Mafia says, "The growth of GBATS over the last 9 years has been a wonderful thing! We are blown away by how many of our friends, fans and fellow truckers look forward to our big September celebration. With GBATS 2017’s huge success & growth, we are expecting around 600 working show trucks in attendance for GBATS 2018! The truck show weekend typically fills Exit 4 to full capacity and takes all of our resources as well as many outside volunteers to make the event the fun destination it has become. We begin planning and meeting in preparation for the show in May, and the workload ramps up each and every week as we get closer to that highly anticipated weekend. Our GBATS vision is most definitely to ‘keep the show growing’ and get better and better each and every event. To ensure the ‘best show ever’, and a more memorable weekend for attendees, moving to a one year ON and one year OFF schedule will allow us to come up with more ideas, attractions, unique activities and also help us set aside a bigger budget to keep GBATS exciting, and on the ‘must see’ list of our loyal customers and friends. By making this scheduling change, it’s really the ‘next step’ in the GBATS history books. It will help us continue to put on one of the most fun trucking events in the USA for you!"
